The force of the impact pushed vehicle #2 into vehicle #3, which was stationary and waiting to turn left onto East Broussard Road. After the initial collisions, vehicle #1 continued through the intersection and struck a wooden electrical pole.

Tragically, three lives were lost as a result of this crash. The occupants of vehicle #2 were identified as Cherita Washington, 36, and Chase Washington, 17, both of Duson. Also lost was Joseph Prejean, 21, of Lafayette, the driver of vehicle #1, who later succumbed to his injuries. A fourth individual, the occupant of vehicle #3, sustained minor to moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
