🕊️ In Loving Memory of Cherita Washington, Chase Washington, and Joseph Prejean 🕊️
Three Lives, One Tragedy — Forever Remembered, Forever Loved
On a quiet Tuesday morning in Lafayette, a devastating crash shattered the peace and forever changed countless lives. What began as an ordinary day ended in unimaginable heartbreak, as families, friends, and an entire community were left mourning the sudden and tragic loss of three precious lives taken far too soon.
According to preliminary information released by the Lafayette Police Department, the collision occurred in the 100 block of E. Broussard Road. A vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed struck another vehicle that was stopped at a red light and preparing to turn onto Johnston Street. In an instant, lives were lost, dreams were silenced, and hearts were broken.
Among those taken in this heartbreaking tragedy were Cherita Washington, just 36 years old, and Chase Washington, 17, both of Duson. Also lost was Joseph Prejean, 21, of Lafayette. Their passing has left a profound emptiness that words cannot fully capture.
Cherita Washington was a light to those who knew her—a woman of strength, love, and compassion. She carried herself with warmth and care, always putting others before herself. Her love for her family was evident in everything she did, and her absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled.
Chase Washington, only 17, had a future filled with promise and possibility. Full of youth, hope, and dreams yet to be realized, Chase’s life was just beginning. He will be remembered for his bright spirit, his smile, and the potential that shined so clearly in him. Gone too soon, his memory will live on in every heart he touched.
Joseph Prejean, 21, was taken at an age when life is meant to be unfolding—plans being made, dreams being chased, and paths being discovered. He was deeply loved, and his presence brought meaning and connection to those around him. His loss is felt deeply throughout Lafayette, where his memory will forever remain.
As this tragedy ripples through the community, Lafayette stands united in grief, prayer, and compassion. We mourn not only the lives lost, but the futures that will never be lived, the laughter that will never again be heard, and the moments that families will forever hold only in memory.
In this time of profound sorrow, we extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of Cherita Washington, Chase Washington, and Joseph Prejean. May they find strength in one another, comfort in shared memories, and peace in knowing their loved ones will never be forgotten.
Though their lives were taken far too soon, their love, their light, and their legacy will endure. Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts—forever remembered, forever loved. 🕯️💙
