In loving memory : 19 -years old Jamie Queen – Gone Too Soon but Never Forgotten

TOLEDO, Ohio — What was meant to be a night filled with fun, laughter, and celebration turned into a scene of heartbreak and tragedy early Sunday morning when gunfire erupted outside a local business plaza, claiming the life of 19-year-old Jasmine Queen and leaving two others injured. The shooting occurred around 3 a.m. near 4 South Reynolds Road, close to the intersection of Hill Avenue, where a party at The Weekend Restaurant and Lounge had just let out.

According to the Toledo Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene after multiple 911 calls reported shots fired in the parking lot of the popular nightlife spot. When police arrived, they found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Jasmine Queen, a young woman described by loved ones as joyful and full of life, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment and are expected to recover.

Detectives say the shooting began after an altercation broke out among several individuals as the crowd was leaving the establishment. What started as a disagreement quickly escalated into violence when gunfire rang out, sending people running for cover. The chaotic scene left behind shattered glass, shell casings, and a devastated community struggling to make sense of yet another act of senseless violence.

“This was supposed to be a fun night for everyone,” said Toledo Police Chief Michael Troendle during a press briefing. “Instead, it ended in tragedy. A young woman with her whole life ahead of her is gone, and her family and friends are left to grieve the unthinkable. We will not rest until those responsible are held accountable.”

Authorities have not yet released details about a possible suspect or motive but confirmed that detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses. Police are urging anyone who may have seen or recorded anything during or after the shooting to come forward with information.

The news of Jasmine Queen’s death has left her family and friends shattered. Described as bright, kindhearted, and full of dreams, Jasmine had recently graduated from high school and was said to be pursuing opportunities that reflected her love of helping others. “She was such a beautiful soul,” said one close friend. “Jasmine had this light about her — she always made everyone feel loved. It’s hard to believe she’s gone.”

In the hours following the tragedy, friends and members of the Toledo community gathered near the scene to light candles, place flowers, and pay tribute to the young woman whose life was cut short far too soon. Vigils and prayer circles have been planned in her honor, as the community continues to rally around her grieving family.

Community leaders have also spoken out, expressing frustration over the recurring violence that has taken too many young lives in the city. “We have to do better,” said Councilwoman Vanice Williams. “We cannot keep losing our children like this. Jasmine deserved a future, and we owe it to her memory to build a safer Toledo.”

As the investigation continues, police are asking anyone with information to contact the Toledo Police Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111. Tips can remain anonymous.

For the Queen family, the days ahead will be filled with sorrow as they plan to say goodbye to their beloved daughter, sister, and friend. What began as a joyous night ended in tragedy — a painful reminder of how quickly life can change, and how deeply one young life can touch an entire community.

Funeral and memorial arrangements for Jasmine Queen will be announced in the coming days as Toledo continues to mourn a bright light extinguished far too soon.
