(Tuesday, 6:08 p.m.) Huntsville Police Confirm Shooting on Brahan Avenue; Victim Found on Ground as Emergency Crews Rush to Scene

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A quiet Tuesday evening in Huntsville was abruptly shattered after police confirmed a shooting on Brahan Avenue shortly after 6:00 p.m. According to officials, units were dispatched to the area following multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire and a person lying in the roadway. The 48 News crew arrived shortly after first responders and witnessed a victim on the ground as emergency personnel worked urgently to assess the situation.

Huntsville Police Department (HPD) officers immediately secured the scene, blocking off portions of Brahan Avenue between nearby residential streets to ensure the safety of first responders and to preserve potential evidence. Witnesses reported hearing several loud shots moments before neighbors rushed outside to find the victim unresponsive.

Paramedics arrived within minutes and began life-saving measures. At this time, police have not released the victim’s name, age, or condition, though they confirmed that the individual was transported to Huntsville Hospital Trauma Center for emergency treatment. Their condition remains unknown.

Neighbors described a chaotic scene, with flashing lights flooding the normally calm street and uniformed officers canvassing the area for witnesses. Several residents said they were inside preparing dinner or settling in for the night when the sound of gunfire erupted.

One resident told reporters, “It was so fast. We heard pop-pop-pop, and then everything went quiet until the sirens came. I looked out and saw someone on the ground. It’s terrifying—this is usually a peaceful street.”

Detectives remained on scene into the evening, photographing the area, marking shell casings, and interviewing anyone who might have seen the moments leading up to the shooting. Investigators are reviewing nearby security cameras and doorbell footage in hopes of identifying a suspect or vehicle involved.

HPD has not confirmed whether the shooting was targeted or random, and no arrests have been announced. Officials are urging residents to remain vigilant and to contact the Huntsville Police Department or Crime Stoppers with any information that could assist in the investigation.

The Brahan Avenue shooting marks yet another unsettling act of violence in North Alabama this month, raising community concerns about public safety and the ongoing efforts by authorities to curb violent crime. Local leaders have encouraged residents to report suspicious activity and to check on those in their neighborhoods as investigations continue.

This is a developing situation. More details are expected to be released as police gather additional information and notify the victim’s family.
