Beloved Birmingham man Remembered After Deadly Shooting; Suspect Arrested in Tragic Case
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | November 9, 2025 — The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) has confirmed the arrest of 26-year-old Brittney Watson, a resident of Brighton, Alabama, in connection with the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Anson Quandarius Henderson, which occurred on Saturday evening in Birmingham. The tragic incident has left a family heartbroken and a community seeking answers as detectives work to piece together what led to the deadly confrontation.
According to authorities, officers with the Birmingham Police South Precinct responded to reports of a shooting around 7:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of 19th Street Southwest. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim — later identified as Anson Quandarius Henderson, of Birmingham — suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service arrived shortly after and transported Henderson to UAB Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead despite emergency lifesaving efforts.
Following an intensive overnight investigation, BPD detectives identified Brittney Watson as a suspect in the case. She was taken into custody without incident early Sunday morning and has since been charged in connection with Henderson’s death. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the motive behind the shooting, but preliminary information suggests that the incident may have stemmed from a domestic-related dispute.
“Violence of this nature is always tragic, especially when it occurs between people who may have known one another,” said Birmingham Police Sgt. LaQuitta Wade in a statement. “Our investigators worked quickly to identify and apprehend the suspect, and we are committed to seeking justice for Mr. Henderson and his family.”
The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case, and formal charges — expected to include murder — are pending. Watson is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
News of the shooting has sent shockwaves through both the Brighton and Birmingham communities. Friends and family of Anson Henderson are mourning his sudden and violent death, remembering him as a kind-hearted and ambitious young man who loved his family deeply and had a bright future ahead.
“He didn’t deserve this,” said one family member. “Anson was full of life. He worked hard, he loved his people, and he always tried to make everyone around him laugh. This is a loss we’ll never recover from.”
Neighbors in the area reported hearing several gunshots and called 911 immediately. “It was terrifying,” said one witness. “We heard shouting and then a few loud pops. When the police arrived, everything happened so fast.”
This marks yet another tragedy in what has been a violent year for Birmingham, where city leaders and police officials continue to call for an end to senseless acts of gun violence. Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond reiterated that the department remains focused on curbing violent crime and encouraging community cooperation.
“We need our community to work with us,” Chief Thurmond said in a Sunday statement. “Every life lost to violence is one too many. Our detectives are dedicated to finding answers and holding those responsible accountable for their actions.”
As the investigation continues, detectives are asking anyone with additional information about the shooting to contact Birmingham Police’s Homicide Unit at 205-254-1764 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
The family of Anson Quandarius Henderson has asked for privacy as they grieve their devastating loss but said they hope justice will be served. Loved ones plan to organize a candlelight vigil later this week to honor his memory, celebrate his life, and call for peace across the city.
“We just want people to remember Anson for who he was — not how he died,” said his cousin. “He had a good heart. We want justice, but we also want change.”
As Birmingham mourns yet another act of gun violence, the tragic death of Anson Henderson serves as a painful reminder of how quickly lives can be shattered — and the urgent need for healing, compassion, and accountability within the community.
