With profound sadness and heavy hearts, the Groveport, Ohio community mourns the tragic and sudden loss of Jan Vélez Quiñones, whose life was taken far too soon in a devastating motorcycle accident on Monday afternoon. Jan’s passing has left an indescribable void in the hearts of family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 4:07 p.m. on Rohr Road near Gateway Court. Jan was traveling westbound on a 2020 Yamaha MT-09 motorcycle when a COTA transit bus turned east onto Rohr Road from Gateway Court. During the turn, the motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the bus, and the motorcycle subsequently caught fire. Despite the response of authorities and emergency personnel, Jan tragically lost his life at the scene.
Beyond the heartbreaking circumstances of the accident, Jan will be remembered for so much more than the way he passed. He was a soul full of life, passion, and purpose—someone whose presence could light up a room and whose kindness left a lasting impression. Jan’s love for the open road reflected his adventurous spirit and his desire to live fully and freely. Those who knew him speak of his warmth, his generosity, and the genuine care he showed to others.
Jan was a beloved son, family member, and friend. His laughter, his dreams, and his unwavering spirit will live on in the memories shared by those closest to him.
