In loving memory of Miguel Garcia
EL PASO, Texas — The El Paso Police Department (EPPD) has released new information following a tragic shooting that occurred early Sunday morning, November 2, 2025, at the La Estancia apartment complex in East El Paso. Authorities have identified the victim as 36-year-old Miguel Garcia, whose life was cut short in what police are describing as a violent and senseless act.
According to officials, officers from the EPPD responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 1:45 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Miguel Garcia suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside one of the apartment units. Emergency medical personnel rendered aid at the scene and quickly transported Garcia to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
In a swift response, detectives from the Crimes Against Persons Unit launched a thorough investigation that led to the identification and arrest of the alleged shooter, 21-year-old Jaeveyin Antonio Porter. Authorities confirmed that Porter was taken into custody later that same day without incident. He has since been charged in connection with Garcia’s death, though officials have not yet released the specific motive behind the shooting.
Police have indicated that preliminary findings suggest the incident stemmed from a dispute that escalated into violence. Investigators are continuing to interview witnesses and review surveillance footage from the apartment complex as they work to piece together the full chain of events leading up to the deadly encounter.
The La Estancia apartment complex, typically a quiet residential area, was filled with shock and sorrow on Sunday morning as neighbors awoke to the sound of sirens and the sight of a heavy police presence. Residents expressed disbelief and sadness over the tragedy, describing Miguel Garcia as a friendly and hardworking man who was well-liked in the community.
“Miguel was always kind to everyone here,” said one neighbor. “He looked out for people and had a good heart. This is just heartbreaking.”
As the investigation continues, the El Paso Police Department is urging anyone with additional information about the case to contact their Crimes Against Persons Unit or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers of El Paso.
Miguel Garcia’s death marks yet another devastating reminder of how quickly violence can shatter lives and communities. Friends and family have begun sharing tributes on social media, remembering him as a loving son, brother, and friend who brought joy to everyone around him.
Authorities have stated that Jaeveyin Antonio Porter remains in custody at the El Paso County Detention Facility as the case moves forward. Formal charges are expected to be presented to the District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
The El Paso community continues to mourn the tragic loss of Miguel Garcia—a life taken far too soon—and hopes for justice and healing as investigators work to bring closure to those left behind.
