SHERMAN, TX — The community of Sherman is reeling after a shooting early Sunday morning left a local woman hospitalized with serious injuries. According to the Sherman Police Department, officers were dispatched around 1:53 a.m. on November 2, 2025, to the intersection of West McGee Street and North Travis Street following reports of a woman who had been shot.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered an adult female suffering from a single gunshot wound to her back. First responders immediately provided emergency medical care before transporting her to a nearby hospital. Her current condition has not been officially released, but authorities have confirmed that she survived the initial incident and remains under medical care.
Investigators quickly identified 19-year-old Tradavian Taylor as the suspected shooter. Preliminary reports indicate that the shooting stemmed from an altercation that escalated into violence. While the exact details leading up to the incident are still under investigation, police have confirmed that Taylor and the victim knew each other prior to the shooting.
Following the incident, Sherman police launched a search for Taylor, urging the public to remain cautious and report any information regarding his whereabouts. Officers were able to locate and detain him later in the morning without further incident. The intersection of West McGee and North Travis was temporarily closed as detectives processed the scene and collected evidence. Residents in the area say they were startled by the sound of gunfire just before 2 a.m. “It all happened so fast,” one neighbor recounted. “We heard the shots and then saw the flashing lights everywhere. It’s frightening because this is normally such a quiet part of town.”
The shooting has left the Sherman community shaken and searching for answers. Local leaders and neighbors are expressing concern about the recent rise in violent incidents, urging continued efforts toward conflict resolution, youth outreach, and community safety. “This kind of violence doesn’t define who we are as a community,” one resident shared. “We need to come together to support the victim and to make sure things like this don’t keep happening.”
In the wake of the shooting, friends and family of the victim have gathered at the hospital, offering prayers and emotional support as she recovers. Social media posts have been filled with messages of love, hope, and calls for justice.
Sherman Police have emphasized that this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
